Moab Day 5

April 20, 2000 – We were scheduled to do "Elephant Hill" today but Mike & Kat and Jeff & I decided that the trip to the trailhead (150 miles roundtrip!) was too long for a fairly easy trail. We decided to do our own thing in Moab. Mike had been invited to go on a "Bronco" run and Jeff and I wanted to take in some sights and pick up a few items. I think Carl and Landon went on the Elephant Hill trail (they want to get their moneys worth!) we’ll have more on their run later, hopefully, they took photos.

After breakfast, Jeff and I went to the "Hole in the Rock" which is a 5000 square foot home, built into solid rock. The home doesn’t need heat or air condition, the temperature stays between 65 and 72 degrees year round. The home has everything you would find in a normal home. We then went back to the arena where all the products were displayed, you could buy anything you every wanted for your rig! All we did was drool over the products. We got to visit with Flatlander, who has the "4x4NOW" website. There were so many radical rigs on display, I felt like I was driving a stock Chevy. As we were going back to the Jeep, we met Mike and Kat with a family they had met on the Bronco run. It seems that the Bronco run consisted of smashing your rig against the rocks trying to make impossible climbs. Mike and the friend he had met decided to come back to town. His friend had a $30-40 thousand dollar Bronco with a new paint job (good decision Mike) They decided they would do "Hells Revenge" and invited us to go along. We declined as we didn’t want to break up the Bronco party with a Jeep.

About 5:30 PM, we went by the Gonzo Inn to check on Mike & Kat. As we drove up, we noticed the hood up on Mike’s Bronco; apparently his fuel pump went bad and he was installing a new one. I guess they had a good time on Hell’s Revenge until the fuel pump went bad. We couldn’t find Carl and Landon and assumed they were not back from the run since it was a long trip. We went to the Moab Brewery for dinner, it is a nice place with good food and is a popular hangout. As we wandered through the parking lot looking at all the rigs, Carl and Landon passed by but didn’t see us since it was now dark.  We drove down to their Motel and left a note explaining where to meet for breakfast.  We had just got to our Motel when Carl and Landon drove up and filled us in on their "Elephant Hill" run.  They were tired, but had a great time.  I will add their story and photos later.  Below are some photos taken at the Arena.

Tomorrow we do "Cliff Hanger".  Mike, Carl and Landon are really looking forward to this run (Not!)
