Moab "Easter Jeep Safari 2000"
April 17, 2000 – We got up this morning expecting snow, but no such luck! After a Continental breakfast at the Motel, we fueled up and departed Battle Mountain about 8 AM. About 9 AM, we got a call from Mike & Kat and they were starting over the Sierras and it was raining and snow was expected. We called several hours later to make sure they made it over the Sierras all right. They were still heading toward Moab and it did snow on them. We stopped in Elko for coffee and decided to leave a little money there, but amazingly, Jeff won $50 and I won $25, so we took the money and got out of Dodge, I mean Elko. Jeff also won another $50 at Stateline. We cruised on across the Salt Flats until we came across a guy along the road waving a gas can. We stopped and tried to siphon some gas out of the Jeep to no avail, we tried to siphon from the Dodge to no avail! The guy was turning blue from inhaling mte additive so we offered to take his gas can to the next gas station and fill it for him. This turned out to be a 40 mile round trip, but the guy was pretty happy, he offered to fill the Dodge and the Jeep, I declined but took $5 for the gas that we bought for him. Nothing but a windy highway on into Provo, Utah. We had dinner there and grabbed a Howard Johnson motel for the night. Haven’t heard from Mike & Kat, but they intended to spend the night in Eastern Nevada.
