Moab Day 1

Moab "Easter Jeep Safari 2000"

April 16, 2000 – Jeff and I departed from Sacramento about 11:30 AM, heading over Interstate 80 towards Reno, Nev. The weather was good, and by good, I mean it wasn’t snowing! We struggled over Donner Summit with the Dodge Dakota breathing pretty heavy at times pulling the trailer and Jeep. We cruised through Reno without even being tempted to stop and gamble (give away money) Jeff took a power nap as he calls it, although I don’t think 2 hours is just a nap! When he roused up, he didn’t think we had moved, since the scenery was still the same! Hey, this is Nevada. The only event of any kind was a stray dog in a rest area we stopped at. This dog ran up to every car or truck that stopped, as if he was looking for someone and then go back looking through garbage cans for something to eat.

We stopped at Battle Mountain for the night and since there was a pizza place next door to one of the Motels, that’s where we stayed! We only went about 380 miles today! Mike Eagan and Kat are leaving Sacramento tomorrow and I think Carl Brandt and Landon are leaving from Eureka. Someone at the motel said the pass up the road from us was supposed to get 2 foot of snow tonight. He couldn’t understand why we seemed excited about it!

This isn’t too exciting, but we had to get started somewhere. Hopefully, when we get to Moab, Utah, we’ll have a bigger story and photos!
